Drinking alcohol or smoking can be a big factor in reflux disease as both can weaken the esophageal muscles and cause acid reflux. Being overweight can also cause reflux and watching what you eat, exercising and losing weight can also relieve the symptoms.
Acid reflux is one of the easiest conditions to treat without medication, for most people a few modifications are all that is necessary to bring relief from symptoms.
